Edge, Chrome, Firefox, DuckDuckGo, Safari, AngelQ. These could be interesting names for models of cars, but actually these are all variations of web browsers. What is the difference between each of these options? More importantly, which one should you pick for your family to use?
The owners of big technology sites won’t even put their own children on their site, states co-founder of AngelQ, Josh Thurman. Their browser, however, was created FOR kids to use – safely. AngelQ was created by Josh Thurman and Tim Estes in May 2025 as a safe alternative for families to give their children internet access without as much risk of finding age-inappropriate content. The AngelQ app uses the power of AI to make searches productive and fun, without accidentally clicking onto a site with content not suitable for young eyes. Going as far as replying to the user to ‘talk to an adult about that topic’ as an answer to a question that unmonitored searches would provide factual, yet age-inappropriate content for. Built for ages 4 – 13, this app is a monthly subscription – with one free month trial period – at this time.
AI should not be parenting your kids, but AngelQ is an extension of your efforts to keep your kids safe when they are online, says co-founder Tim Estes. The app has features that counteract the common features of big social media: time limit pop ups, redirect for parental approval, ending endless scrolling or autoplay, and age appropriate content that works. Reports to email or text, controlling through text, and curated suggestions for activities or books based on child’s searches, are all features of this new browser. Part of the motivation for them to create this app was for kids’ identity to NOT be rooted in social media or online presence, and also minimize family conflict over screen time limits. Thoughtfully crafted technology tools are irreplaceable to a parent’s instruction to children, and we all need the daily reminder that our identity should be rooted in Christ, with our time being a precious commodity to use wisely – no matter what kind of apps we employ.
